Tubal Ovarian Cervical Uterine

There is sometimes more than one cause of infertility. This is why it is very important to have your doctor continue to search all aspects and rule out everything else including male infertility.

Cervical Problems

The cervix is a vital component in the female reproductive system. It is the conduit through which sperm must first pass from the vagina into the uterus, up the Fallopian tube, and, it is hoped, to an awaiting egg. Here are some cervical abnormalities that can impair conception or lead to miscarriage:

Malformations of the cervical canal, such as those seen in DES daughters.

The cervix is positioned wrong

Infections, which can produce poor quality, thick cervical mucus that can restrict or prevent sperm movement. Injury from medical procedures, such as cryosurgery, cone biopsy, conization, or cauterization, which are often performed after abnormal Pap smear results.

Factors Related to Tubal

1. Malfunctioning fallopian tubes: This cause accounts for more than 20% of infertility problems in women. The abnormalities prevent the egg from being fertilized by the sperm. It can also cause the tubes to become blocked or be damaged making it impossible for the eggs to move or allow the egg to go through.

Other Causes of Tubal Disease:

Apparent or inapparent infections Endometriosis Sterilization Miscarriages

Overian Problems

Ovarian disorders can prevent the development and ovulation of viable ova. Irregular or abnormal ovulation accounts for approximately 25 percent-some estimates place it as high as 33 percent-of all female infertility cases. Tell your doctor if you have abnormal periods, such as heavy flow or cramps, or irregularly occurring periods. These may signal ovarian dysfunction.

Frequent Casues of Ovulation Problems

Thyroid disease Hypercortisolism Diabetes

Rare Causes

Congenital problems Polycystic Ovarian Disease Endometriosis Some Drugs

Problems with the Uterus

Ways that Uterine problems cause infertility:

Structural problems Inability to for egg to attach to the uterus wall Embryo is unable to implant
