Getting Mature But Not Growing Old

All of us need to come to the realization that we're going to grow old one day, though what we think of as aging is probably far different than what it actually can be if we take care of ourselves. Truthfully, growing old doesn't mean you have to 'grow old' and, as Germaine Greer observed; 'You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.' That's a good philosophy to have.

In that vein, consider what you might do to affirm your essential youthfulness (even if you're heading into your seventh decade of life) and street cred, so to speak. If you've never picked up a musical instrument like a guitar, you might want to consider doing so. And don't worry if you're a southpaw because a left handed electric guitar is readily available and ready to be blasted.

Doing something like that is a good way to keep cultivating youth and you should keep doing things similar as you add more years to your chronological age. What it comes down to is getting up, moving around and staying active is much as possible. Now, your body may try to convince you otherwise but it's really only playing a game with you so ignore it when you can.

What this means is that even though you might have a touch of leg arthritis, for example, there are certainly plenty of things that can be done to help deal with that result of some broken bone you may have gotten when you were younger. It might be, technically, an infirmity of age but it doesn't have to be a condition that makes you even older.

If you're experiencing achy joints, realize that there are also a myriad of ways to help deal with that, too. Head over to that big outlet department store and pick up a jumbo bottle of Kirkland glucosamine and start taking it every day. For sure, your joints are going to be much happier with you and you're going to like being able to get out there and mix it up like in the days of old.

George Bernard Shaw once observed that we don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. The man definitely knew what he was talking about when it comes to youth, dealing with aging and how we can maintain a certain type of youth into the next hundred years of life we all hope to experience in this day and age.

Remember; do things that help you be youthful in more ways than just chronologically. Get out there and play or learn to strum a guitar or beat on some drums. Also, laugh as much as you can and do it deeply and for a long time. You'd be surprised at what you can make your body do when you're suitably motivated, after all.
